I want to upgrade to silicone implants

Chelsea, 36, Physical therapist, Oxford

I have saline implants, but when I saw the result of breast augmentation with silicone implants on one of my friends, I decided to replace mine.

If you are not satisfied with the appearance of your current breast implants or if you need to replace them following a rupture or a capsular contracture, a surgery is necessary.

Some patients want to change their type of implants (saline to silicone or vice versa) whereas others want to change their implants size or simply get an breast implant revision for a better result. Breast implants replacement might also be necessary if a rupture happens. Contrary to popular belief, breast implants don’t need replacement after 10 years. Aside from your decision to switch implants, the only reason justifying breast implants replacement or removal is a malfunction, the most frequent one being implant rupture.

Surgical technique

The surgery is similar to the initial breast augmentation and takes 1 to 2 hours to perform. In most cases, the surgeon makes an incision in the scars from your initial surgery to remove the implants. If you decided you get bigger breast implants, the surgeon might rearrange the breast implant pockets to accommodate a volume increase.

For breast implants replacement, patients usually stay 1 to 2 nights at the clinic under medical observation.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia.

Most patients report that the recovery after implants replacement is easier than the initial breast augmentation. This is because tissues and skin already accommodated the implants before by stretching, but the same postoperative care is required. Patients usually get back on their feet the day after the surgery and resume work after a week or two. Strenuous activities and exercise must be avoided during 4 to 5 weeks.

For a breast implants replacement procedure, our patients usually stay 5 nights and 6 days in Tunisia.

You will be able to get back to your hotel room once you’re discharged by your surgeons. You will receive postoperative care at your hotel room and your surgeon will check up on your recovery before your departure.

We encourage you to stay in touch with your surgeon by phone or e-mail to let him know about your recovery and result.

We're not around right now. But you can send us an email and we'll get back to you, asap.
